She said she was a dream you won’t remember. She was the bliss of amnesia. A sunrise in Ibiza. A saffron sky that burned through citrus trees, and turned sun-drenched alabaster to a light grapefruit pink. Her lips were salted with balmy breeze and rum, her eyes bright diamond prisms. The lights on the dance floor swirled around her like an electric aurora borealis. She was eternally dawn. A blazing streak of pink that filled a dark horizon and warmed your world for one euphoric moment, before you blinked and she was gone.
The Club: Amnesia
IBIZA
1976 - PRESENT
Amnesia was born on Ibiza in 1976, a club that materialised the ideals of a philosopher who transformed a Spanish finca into a sanctuary of music and freedom. Antonio Escohotado gave the club the name "El taller de los olvidadizos" or "The Workshop of Forgetfulness”, which was replaced by the Greek word of the same meaning. An oasis where time is measured only by beats per minute, at Amnesia the sunrise feels like a revelation by those who find solace in the dawn after nights drenched in sound. Alfredo Fiorito, known as the “father of the Balearic Beat,” is often regarded as one of the most influential DJs in Amnesia’s history. Alfredo was a resident DJ at Amnesia in the mid-80s and played a pivotal role in shaping the island’s music culture. His sets mixed everything from house, disco, pop, rock, and reggae, creating the unique “Balearic” sound that became synonymous with Ibiza. His innovative style caught the attention of visiting UK DJs like Paul Oakenfold and Danny Rampling, who took the Balearic Beat back to the UK, helping lead to the birth of the acid house movement and the rise of rave culture.
